The Centre for Community-Driven Research (CCDR) started in 2012 and is a non-profit organisation bringing much needed change to the way we think about community engagement in health and research. Our vision is to create health systems that are based on equitable decision-making as they are person-centric and driven by the community: CCDR is taking the community from being the guests in the process, to the hosts.
CCDR listens to the issues that people (patients), researchers, and healthcare and industry partners face and develop solutions – through community engagement – to solve those issues. We do this so that research, healthcare programs, policies and products being developed can reach the patients at the bedside sooner, and better address the needs patients and their families.
Our goal is to have health systems that are based on equitable decision-making as they are person-centric and driven by the community.
CCDR is taking the community from being the guests in the process, to the hosts through our core programs; the Patient (Personal) Experience Expectations and Knowledge Program (PEEK), the National Patient Organisation Network program, and Piloting Community Engagement and Community-Based Health Delivery Approaches (Pilots).
The Health System Orientation (HSO) program is our newest program which aims to support professionals working in any role within companies that have an impact on how patients experience the health system or access services, treatments, diagnostics or other products.
Our expertise is understanding health systems from the perspective of those that use health systems, whether it be patients, their families or those that provide care.
The HSO program is designed for Pharmaceutical companies, Device companies, Health insurers, International patient organisation networks, Research institutes, Legal firms dealing with health related-issues and/or Government agencies.
There are many stakeholders that work in health-related organisations including professionals from a broad range of specialty areas, whether it be legal, accounting, regulation, policy, clinical areas, health economics and so on.
When working in these roles, regardless of the area of specialisation, the thing that unites us is patients and their families.
Understanding the health system through the lense of those that use and experience the health system is essential for anyone whose work directly or indirectly influences the way a patient receives care or experiences life.
This is what unites us all and when we can understand the context of the work we do, we are more motivated to maintain focus and achieve our own organisational goals.
This is where CCDR’s Health system orientation program is an essential part of any organisations on-boarding and ongoing professional development suite.
